Secure Propane Containers Properly

Make sure your propane gas cylinder and regulators are installed and properly secured in or on your R.V. or camper. Depending on the type of vehicle, cylinders and regulating equipment can be located as follows:

  • Travel trailers and tent trailers – secure the container on the A frame as close to the front of the trailer body as possible.
  • Motor homes, vans, and fifth-wheel trailers for slide-in chassis-mounted units – secure the container in the recessed compartment, which must be ventilated at the top and bottom, completely sealed from the interior of your R.V. or camper, accessible only from the outside, and ventilated to the outdoors.

Here are some additional guidelines:

  • A propane cylinder must never be located on the roof, front, or sides, of motor homes, vans, and fifth-wheel trailers for slide-in chassis-mounted units.
  • For all cylinders, pressure relief valves must be pointed away from the vehicle or toward the container compartment opening.
  • Cylinders located on the rear of an R.V. or camper must be securely fastened and protected by substantial bumpers.
  • Always store and use the cylinder in the position for which it was designed.
  • Never use, store, or transport propane containers in the passenger space or living area of your R.V. or camper.
  • Never use or store flammable liquids inside your R.V. or camper, as pilot lights can ignite the vapours from flammable liquids.
