Protect Your Regulator and Connectors

Propane reacts to temperature changes. When the temperature drops, the pressure in the container drops. When the temperature rises, the pressure increases. Therefore, a regulator assembly must be provided to maintain a constant delivery pressure to your appliances at all times.

Most permanent propane installations use two regulators to control the pressure to your appliances. The 1st stage regulator is located at the propane container with the 2nd stage regulator installed at the building wall where the propane tubing or piping enters the building.

Outdoor portable appliances such as barbeques, firepits and fryers are equipped with a single regulator found between the cylinder and hose connection to the appliance.

The regulator must be protected. A malfunctioning regulator can result in excessive gas pressure to appliances, or regulator failure, which could result in injury or property damage.

  • Prevent clogging of the regulator vent - to prevent ice or snow build-up in the winter, or the entry of rain, freezing snow or other liquids, a regulator should always be installed with its vent opening pointing downward. If not, ensure a proper cover exists for the regulator.
  • Prevent moisture in the cylinder - to prevent moisture from causing the regulator to freeze up, always keep the cylinder valve closed and portable appliance connectors in place when not in use. If you suspect there is moisture in the cylinder, have your propane dealer correct the problem before filling.

Do not attempt to install or repair a regulator - call your propane supplier if service is required.
